Insulated Siding

Insulated Siding for Greater Resilience and Weatherproofing

In recent years, foam backed vinyl siding has increased in popularity for both commercial and residential applications. Most commonly insulated siding is manufactured similarly to traditional vinyl siding, but with a layer of expanded polystyrene (EPS) fitted to the underside of the boards. This foam acts as an insulator, and also serves to make your siding system more resilient to impact and warping.

Another facet of insulated siding is the color versatility. In the past, vinyl siding has been confined to beige, white or grey. Now, manufacturers are producing foam backed vinyl siding in every color from blue to red to pink, giving home- and facility-owners design versatility. No matter what aesthetic you are trying to achieve, there is a variation of insulated vinyl siding that will work for your home or commercial building.

Thinking about installing or repairing your foam backed vinyl siding?

This Is What You Need to Know

EPS foam is an excellent insulator, with a high r-value—or resistance heat flow—which is why it is used as the backing of foam siding. For both commercial and residential applications, foam backed vinyl siding protects buildings from extreme temperatures, resulting in lower heating and cooling bills. Foam siding is also breathable, meaning your siding system has some vapor permeability without retaining moisture.

Insulated vinyl siding is a middle ground between traditional vinyl siding and more expensive materials, such as wood siding—foam backed vinyl siding costs about $1.70-$4.20 per square foot.

When compared to traditional vinyl siding, foam siding requires less maintenance, as the foam behind the siding system alleviates problems caused by expansion and contracting around seams. This means the wind is less likely to pull at the seams of foam siding, and water is less likely to leak through.

As with most siding and roofing projects, proper installation is absolutely crucial to the success of a system. A bad installation can result in warped boards, buckled siding, leaks and gaps between seams—all of which can lead to the premature failure of your foam siding system.

An experienced siding contractor will install flashings correctly around windows and dormers, as well as cut and align insulated siding boards perfectly, preventing pull-away from seams and corners.

Wildwood Roofing provided excellent service throughout the entire process of replacing my hail damaged roof. Their (Luke and staff) expertise with handling the paperwork and phone calls with my insurance company made it easy and stress free.Their roofing crew was prompt, courteous and professional and I am extremely satisfied with the finished product ( roof and skylights ).

Scott C

I chose Wildwood because they had the lowest bid and I was impressed with their webpage, reviews, and prior jobs they show on their website. During the job, they found cedar roofing that was under the old shingles. It cost me an extra to get them removed and it took an extra 2 days over what they stated. Overall, I am happy with the job. My house looks great and had no leaks that I am aware of. After a week after my roof was completed, some of my siding came off where it met the shingles, but they came out and fixed it for me. Some people may care about wanting to have American workers to get the job. The roofers that came to my house, didn’t speak english, played spanish music while working, and most likely from South America. It didn’t bother me, but some people may want to pay for American workers.
