Filing A Homeowners Insurance Claim 101

First things first: whenever your home sustains significant damage, you need to contact your insurer no matter the time. Then you’ll need to photograph everything so you can prove your loss to the homeowners insurance adjuster. But that’s just skimming the surface. There’s a lot to keep in mind as you file a claim to minimize the risk of having it be denied.

A reputable roofing contractor should guide you through dealing with your home insurance company.

In this guide, we give you a step-by-step checklist for filing a claim from spotting damage to contacting your homeowners insurance company to dealing with your adjuster.

Finding the right contractor: The exactimate advantage

Xactimate, often misspelled as “Exactimate” is a software used by many reputable roofing and construction contractors that sets price ranges for common home repairs.

Essentially, “Exactimate” takes the guesswork out of getting the cost of home repairs approved by your homeowners insurance company.

Working with a roofing contractor that uses “Exactimate” for insurance claims lessens the chance your claim will be denied.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to find a contractor that will work within the guidelines of your homeowners insurance policy.

Whether you noticed your home’s roof is failing, or your home has just sustained significant storm damage, learn what you need to know about conducting repairs through homeowners insurance. Fill out the form to download our home insurance tips guide.

Wildwood Roofing provided excellent service throughout the entire process of replacing my hail damaged roof. Their (Luke and staff) expertise with handling the paperwork and phone calls with my insurance company made it easy and stress free.Their roofing crew was prompt, courteous and professional and I am extremely satisfied with the finished product ( roof and skylights ).

I chose Wildwood because they had the lowest bid and I was impressed with their webpage, reviews, and prior jobs they show on their website. During the job, they found cedar roofing that was under the old shingles. It cost me an extra to get them removed and it took an extra 2 days over what they stated. Overall, I am happy with the job. My house looks great and had no leaks that I am aware of. After a week after my roof was completed, some of my siding came off where it met the shingles, but they came out and fixed it for me. Some people may care about wanting to have American workers to get the job. The roofers that came to my house, didn’t speak english, played spanish music while working, and most likely from South America. It didn’t bother me, but some people may want to pay for American workers.
