EPDM systems are made from a compound called ehtylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), which is where the roofing system gets its name. Rubber roofing comes in sheets in widths ranging from 7.5 ft. up to 50 ft.

EPDM systems are manufactured to adhere to the ASTM D4637 standard, or the Standard Specification for EPDM Sheets Used in Single-Ply Roof Membranes. To pass this standard, manufacturers must pass various tests intended to measure the effectiveness of the membrane against the weatherproofing and fire resistance specifications set by ASTM.
